THANKSGIVING

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.
–Psalm 100:4-5

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:5-6).
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
–Col. 2:6-7

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness”
–Ps. 107:8

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
–I Thess. 5:18

These passages, among many others offer these wonderful reminders about Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is expressive. It is not to be shut up in our hearts without being vocalized either in word, song, or prayer.

Thanksgiving is not just an action, but an attitude. It is demonstrated not just in words but in deeds.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful opportunity for Christians to recognize the source of all their blessings. God Almighty.

Thanksgiving encompasses not only all other holidays but every day of every week.

Thanksgiving opens our minds, enlightens our eyes, and unlocks the door of our hearts to a greater perspective of the many blessings that surround us daily.

Thanksgiving turns problems into possibilities and troubles into triumphs.

Thanksgiving is a daily recognition of God’s providence. His goodness. His grace. And His mercy.

Thanksgiving enriches our lives. It provides a fullness of life without which something is missing. It’s thanksgiving that makes us joyful. Not joy that makes us thankful.

Thanksgiving, when sincerely practiced, opens our eyes to see how much more we have to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving causes us to feel compassion for those less fortunate and to share with those who are in need.

Thanksgiving diminishes feelings of pride, complacency, discontent, and worldly ambition.

Thanksgiving curbs the greedy, stingy, and selfish spirit that makes us miserable and leaves us feeling empty.

Thanksgiving may help us see our blessings as though we were seeing them for the very first time….or maybe for the very last time.

Thanksgiving, to quote William Arthur Ward, “can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

Thanksgiving inspires us to seek, see and seize opportunities to do good and make a difference in the world.

Thanksgiving elevates our worship, increases our praise, and multiples our joyfulness.

Thanksgiving, in summary, is not dependant on a certain set of circumstances, but a certain set of attitudes.

Thanksgiving–may it fill your heart and overflow in every aspect of your life.
